We’re now three episodes into House of the Dragon and things are progressing nicely. “Second of His Name” opens up a few years since we last saw our key players, when King Viserys Targaryen (Paddy Considine) declared he would marry Alicent Hightower (Emily Carey) and Corlys Velaryon formed an alliance with Daemon Targaryen (Matt Smith) in an attempt to take down Craghas Crabfeeder (Daniel Scott-Smith).
Now, Viserys and Alicent have a two-year-old son named Aegon II with another baby on the way. Meanwhile, there’s a full-out war going on in the Stepstones that Daemon and Corlys are losing. Rhaenyra Targaryen (Milly Alcock) is pressured to marry despite her wishes, and she spends most of the episode with Criston Cole (Fabien Frankel) while the others are busy with a royal hunt.
Warning: This article contains SPOILERS for House of the Dragon episode 3!
While most of the episode takes place during the royal hunt, following Rhaenyra as she’s courted by a Lannister lord and pressured to choose a husband by her father, the ending transports us over to the Stepstones to see how the big battle comes to an end. There’s only one major death in this episode, but wow, it’s memorable.
Does Daemon kill the Crabfeeder in House of the Dragon?
We haven’t quite yet reached Game of Thrones territory in terms of the amount of big deaths, but we’re getting there. In House of the Dragon Episode 3, Daemon is finally able to kill the Crabfeeder…after he gets some motivation.
It starts when Daemon receives a letter from his brother Viserys telling him he’s sending fleet to help him. Viserys says he knows they’ve become estranged, but he doesn’t wish for his defeat, and wants to assist. Reading this enrages Daemon, as he wanted to prove to his brother that he could do this on his own.
Because of this embarrassment, Daemon decides to end it right then, acting as bait for the Crabfeeder. He goes to the beach where the Crabfeeder is hiding in a nearby cave and starts waving a white flag. He lures the army out, and once they’re close enough he starts killing everyone. A battle ensues and it’s a real blood bath, but the end result is that Daemon is able to run into the cave and walk out with a dead Crabfeeder. It’s a very gruesome scene, and one I will probably watch multiple times!
Daemon has proved himself to be the most impulsive and violent character on House of the Dragon so far, and we’re sure this won’t be the last time we’ll see him act out.
