Daemon comes home in photos for House of the Dragon Episode 4
We’re picking up the pace on House of the Dragon. After last week’s eventful ending out in the Stepstones with Daemon (Matt Smith) defeating the Crabfeeder (Daniel Scott-Smith) in “Second of His Name,” there’s more conflict ahead in “King of the Narrow Sea.” As hinted in the teaser trailer, a scandal seemingly hits the Targaryens, with a “vile accusation” being made against Rhaenyra (Milly Alcock).
The new photos released by HBO for “King of the Narrow Sea” focus on Daemon’s return to King’s Landing after he’s won his war. He and his brother King Viserys (Paddy Considine) aren’t exactly on bad terms coming off of last week’s episode, but there’s always going to be tension between them. In Episode 4, however, their issues might be squashed for at least a little bit.
Now let’s look at these awesome photos from “King of the Narrow Sea.”
Rhaenyra speaks with Alicent, looks bored in House of the Dragon Episode 4
I’m curious to see where Rhaenyra and Alicent’s (Emily Carey) relationship goes next. It seems obvious Alicent still really cares for her former best friend and wants to remain close. Of course, that’s hard when she’s married to Rhaenyra’s dad. This conversation below looks like a tense one; it could be that Alicent is reminding Rhaenyra she has to pick a suitor to marry.
The second photo sees Rhaenyra in a gorgeous dark orange gown (can I wear this for Halloween!?) while looking utterly miserable and bored at whatever she’s watching. As we know from last week’s episode and from this week’s trailer, she’s pressured to choose a husband. But hey, at least Viserys is letting her make that decision.
Daemon returns as the King of the Narrow Sea in House of the Dragon Episode 4
Daemon heads back home wearing what looks like a small makeshift crown and declares he has been named King of the Narrow Sea. Of course, this doesn’t really mean anything when Westeros already has a king, his brother Viserys. And these next three photos don’t look like Daemon is there to cause trouble. He bends the knee to Viserys and they seem to be enjoying each other’s company in the next picture.
And oh yeah, if you haven’t noticed already, Daemon got a haircut. He’s no longer looking like Legolas or Geralt of Rivia, and I’m actually kind of digging the new ‘do.
Daemon and Rhaenyra share a moment in House of the Dragon Episode 4
After Daemon bends the knee to his brother, it appears he can now just chill out in King’s Landing. He hasn’t seen Rhaenyra since their little incident at Dragonstone, but it doesn’t look like things are awkward. The two clearly share some type of special bond, and they seem to be in a good place in Episode 4.
Once again, Rhaenyra is wearing a dress I want to own:
Viserys shows Rhaenyra the famous catspaw dagger in House of the Dragon Episode 4
The next photo is a moment that’s been teased for a couple of weeks, when Viserys shows Rhaenyra the catspaw dagger made of Valyrian steel that ends up becoming very important in Game of Thrones. Rhaenyra reads the memorable line: “From my blood comes the Prince Who Was Promised, and his shall be the song of ice and fire.”
Though this picture looks innocent enough, we know from the teaser trailer that Viserys is seriously angry at Rhaenyra in the new episode. He even calls her his “political headache.” Perhaps that’s because she doesn’t want to marry, or perhaps it’s because she’s taking too long to choose a husband.
Rhaenyra rejects some of the responsibilities society puts on her on account of her being a woman, and while Viserys can be understanding about that, he also has duties as the king.
Otto has “discomforting news” for Viserys in House of the Dragon Episode 4
Ending on a dramatic note, the last photo shows Viserys in a heated conversation with Otto Hightower (Rhys Ifans). We know Otto has “discomforting news” to share with the king, and it looks like Viserys will not take it well. If we’d have to guess, this might have something to do with Daemon (because when is he not causing trouble?) or maybe something to do with Rhaenyra (because she’s already angering her father).
This “discomforting news” and “vile accusation” really is the big question mark going into House of the Dragon Episode 4. For those who have read Fire & Blood, you might be able to predict what this is all about. Whatever the scandal is, we’re sure it’ll be a big one.
The mess continues in the fourth episode of House of the Dragon, “King of the Narrow Sea,” premiering this Sunday night at 9:00 p.m. EST.
