Nori Brandyfoot and the Harfoots

Actor: Markella Kavenagh

During the Second Age in The Rings of Power, the lovable Hobbits don’t yet exist. Instead, we see their ancestors the Harfoots. Like Hobbits, Harfoots are about half the size of men and do not wear shoes. According to appendices in The Lord of the Rings, Harfoots were the most common type of Hobbit at one time.

The Harfoots of The Rings of Power are a close-knit community that tend to steer clear of any other types of people. Instead of sticking to a home base, Harfoots are nomadic, throwing up temporary but homey dwellings for certain periods of time. When they do move, the series implies that they determine their “migrations” based on their own calendar of seasons.

Actor Markella Kavenagh plays the show’s main Harfoot, Elanor “Nori” Brandyfoot. Unlike many of her fellow Harfoots, Nori is an adventurous and curious character. Her personality makes her stick out amongst her kind, who prefer to stay under the radar. Nori’s best friend, Poppy Proudfelow (Megan Richards), is much more cautious. “They are the yin to each other’s yang, which has been really exciting to explore,” Richards told Variety.

The leader of this tribe is Sadoc Burrows (Sir Lenny Henry), another careful Harfoot who always has an eye out for trouble or change.
