Throughout his career, Norman Reedus has proven himself to be something of an action man, playing some of the toughest characters you’ll ever see. Look no further than his work on The Walking Dead as Daryl Dixon, one of the most badass survivors in the entire show. He’s renowned for getting into the thick of the action on set, which has resulted in his fair share of filming-related injuries, but the concussion he suffered while filming The Walking Dead’s final episode was perhaps his worst ever.

The horrific injury occurred earlier this year, on March 11, while Reedus was filming some of his last scenes after over a decade of working on the show. Recently, Reedus recounted the events. “Oh dude, that was horrible,” he told Entertainment Weekly. “That whole ordeal for me personally was terrifying. I thought I was going to die.”

"It was very serious. It was scary. I’ve been hit in the face and the head a million times. I’ve gone through car windows, but that one rung my bell. I had a neurologist. I had all sorts of s—. I failed the light test. I had a security guard in the driveway, just in case. I was holding onto the walls walking through the rooms. It was nuts."

Norman Reedus was bothered about slowing down The Walking Dead production while grappling with life-threatening concussion

Like the true professional he is, Reedus was as worried about the production being postponed as he was about his own wellbeing.  “You’re shooting over a year, and now we’re having to postpone some of the shooting because I’m lying in bed. So the guilt of me not being at work and people are like, ‘Are we going to go a week over? Are we going two weeks over?’ — that was bothering me.”

Thankfully, Reedus is back to normal now. We wish him the best. Despite filming his final episode in the main series, he won’t be leaving the Walking Dead franchise behind. In fact, he’s already signed on for his very own spinoff series, which will see Daryl head to Europe.

The Walking Dead returns for its final eight episodes on October 2 on AMC. The fight is almost over…
