Confused about who is related to who in HBO’s House of the Dragon? Check out our simplified House Targaryen family tree!
Like Game of Thrones before it, HBO’s new hit series House of the Dragon has a ton of complicated family dynamics. But unlike the mothership show, the prequel series focuses heavily on one particular family: House Targaryen, the dragonriding rulers of Westeros.
You’d be hard pressed to find a more complex family tree in the Seven Kingdoms than that of the Targaryens, who often practiced incest and had many children to shore up their dynasty. With the latest episode, “The Princess and the Queen,” the show skips forward in time 10 years to introduce us to a whole new generation of the family.
If you’re having a hard time keeping your Aegons straight from your Aemonds, your Baela and Rhaena separate from your Rhaenys and Rhaenyra, we’re here to help you out. We’ve put together a simplified version of the Targaryen family tree that focuses specifically on the generations relevant to the first season of House of the Dragon.
And in case you’d prefer to watch us describe who all these Targaryens are and how they’re related to each other, we also made a video breakdown:
House of the Dragon premieres new episodes Sundays at 9:00 p.m. EST / 8:00 p.m. CST on HBO and HBO Max. May this family tree make it a little easier to keep all those platinum blonde wigs straight in your head.
