Elizabeth Olsen: No, I’m not cast in House of the Dragon season 2

Before she made it big as Wanda in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Elizabeth Olsen auditioned to play Daenerys Targaryen on Game of Thrones. It didn’t go well. “I was doing the Khaleesi speech when she comes out of the fire. It was awful. I didn’t get a callback,” she remembered.

Maybe that’s part of the reason why the internet latched onto a rumor a while back that Olsen had been cast in the upcoming second season of House of the Dragon, HBO’s Game of Thrones prequel show. That always sounded really silly, but the internet was nonetheless awash with the “news” that Olsen would be joining the platinum wig brigade. This is why you never believe what you read on Twitter, people: the line between “wouldn’t it be cool if this happened?” and “this is happening” basically doesn’t exist.

There was also a rumor going around that Henry Cavill would be joining the show, probably because people saw him wearing a blonde wig in The Witcher, were reminded of House of the Dragon, and figured that reality would bend to acknowledge their realization that two things looked alike. Speaking to ET Online, Olsen set the record straight: “I don’t know how things, like rumors like that, get started, and then people think they’re legitimate,” she laughed.

That said, it’s not like Olsen would object to appearing on House of the Dragon. But we can wait for reality to take shape before making our own. “[I’d like do to] anything that’s worth telling, that’s a good story, that’s innovative, that’s great great characters.”

Before we see her in Westeros, I’d guess it’s more likely we’ll see Olsen return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as the Scarlet Witch. Sure, she apparently died in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, but death has never been a big impediment when it comes to superheroes. “We just we really had a great time making that show,” Olsen said of WandaVision. “It really was just a special time and so we would love to get the gang back.”

Knowing Disney, I think that’s something we can assume will happen sooner or later, although there’s no official announcement as of yet.
