It’s a big night for fans rooting for Rhaenyra (Emma D’Arcy) and Daemon (Matt Smith) on House of the Dragon! In Episode 7, “Driftmark,” the two are reunited when the families gather for Daemon’s late wife Laena’s (Nanna Blondell) funeral. Of course, tensions are high with Alicent (Olivia Cooke) trying to calculate her next move, and her father Otto (Rhys Ifans) is back as the Hand of King Viserys (Paddy Considine).

We get to see a softer side of Daemon in Episode 6. He seems to have cooled off a bit after not only marrying Laena Velaryon, but suffering her death in childbirth. Laena may not have been his first choice of wife, but they were “happy enough,” as he puts it. But now that she’s out of the picture and he sees Rhaenyra after all of these years, it’s not too surprising what happens next.

Later that night, Daemon and Rhaenyra walk on the beach as they catch up and talk about their marriages and lives apart. Rhaenyra tells her uncle that he abandoned her, and it’s obvious she was really hurt when he left. It’s plain to see the two still have feelings for each other, and it doesn’t take long for them to start kissing. They end up having sex and it seems like they could actually be end-game.

Rhaenyra and Daemon have sex and get married in House of the Dragon

Their night together is cut short when Daemon sees that someone is riding Laena’s dragon, Vhagar. That leads into the real big part of the episode, where people are forced to take sides after Rhaenyra and Laenor’s son Luke (Harvey Sadler) slashes Alicent and Viserys’ son Aemond’s (Leo Ashton) eye out. Alicent loses it and lunges at Rhaenyra and her sons with a knife, as Rhaenyra realizes the accusations of Laenor (John MacMillan) not really being the father of her kids are not going away anytime soon.

This scene creates a real divide between the families and Rhaenyra realizes she must do something if she wants to remain the heir. She proposes to Daemon that they get married, as two Targaryens ruling together would be stronger than her staying with Laenor. Of course, it’s not a stretch to believe Rhaenyra is in love with Daemon, but she’s thinking politically here, too.

House of the Dragon Episode 7 ends with Rhaenyra and Daemon getting married in a hurried ceremony, with only a few people present, including their kids. As for Laenor, they stage his death so he and his lover Qarl (Arty Froushan) can escape and start a new life together.

Will Rhaenyra and Daemon have children in House of the Dragon?

Rhaenyra and Daemon’s wedding happens so fast; I knew it was coming at some point but I was still shocked! Now, a question on viewers’ minds might be whether or not the two have children. At this point in House of the Dragon, the two do not have kids. But we have reason to believe they will.

In Fire & Blood, the book House of the Dragon is based on, Daemon and Rhaenyra go on to have two boys: Aegon and Viserys. Yup, another Aegon and another Viserys. They also have a daughter, Visenya, but she is sadly a stillborn baby. We’re not sure if we’ll meet both children in House of the Dragon season 1, but with another time jump ahead before the finale, it’s entirely possible.

The House of the Dragon season 1 finale is coming up soon, so don’t miss a minute of the Game of Thrones prequel when new episodes air every Sunday night on HBO.
