With the 10-year time jump we got in Episode 6 of House of the Dragon, not only are we getting to know older versions of characters we know like Rhaenyra Targaryen (Emma D’Arcy) and Alicent Hightower (Olivia Cooke), but we are also meeting their children.

By now, the two ladies have multiple kids, and it becomes evident right away who the troublemakers are. While Rhaenyra’s boys Luke (Harvey Sadler) and Jace (Leo Hart) are reserved, as is Alicent’s daughter Helaena (Evie Allen), Alicent’s older son Aegon (Ty Tennant) and younger son Aemond (Leo Ashton) are…a lot.

House of the Dragon Episode 7, Driftmark,” is out now, and the divide between the two families becomes even greater when the kids break out into a fight and accusations of Rhaenyra’s children not really being Laenor’s (John MacMillan) are said out in the open.

Warning: This article contains SPOILERS for House of the Dragon Episode 7!

When we’re introduced to Aemond in Episode 6, he’s kind of just a sad kid who gets bullied by his older brother. But in this week’s episode, his storyline takes a turn when he works up the courage to claim Vhagar — the late Laena Velaryon’s (Nanna Blondell) dragon. For Aegon’s part, he’s busy getting drunk and hiding from his family at Laena’s funeral where they’re all gathered. While this is a huge episode for Rhaenyra, Alicent, and Daemon (Matt Smith), it’s also very much Aemond’s time to shine.

After Aemond successfully rides Vhagar, she’s his dragon now. Understandably, Laena’s daughters Baela (Shani Smethurst) and Rhaena (Eva Ossei-Gerning) are upset that he took the liberty of basically stealing her. They wake up Jace, and a confrontation between the children of the two families starts, which turns into a fight.

What happens to Aemond’s eye in House of the Dragon?

A brawl breaks out between the kids, and Aemond really makes Jace angry when he calls him and Luke bastards. After Aemond knocks down Jace, Luke grabs a knife and slices Aemond in the eye. Aemond starts gushing blood, and it’s a pretty nasty scene. As a maester stitches Aemond up, he delivers the news to Alicent that while his skin will heal, his eye is gone.

So yes, it’s Aemond who loses his eye in House of the Dragon Episode 7, not Aegon. (Their names are so similar, we just wanted to clear that up). Alicent slaps Aegon across the face for not being there for his brother, and he just seems clueless.

Aemond experiences a major loss in this episode, but he also gains something. Now that he has Vhagar, he’s way more powerful and important to the family. He’ll go on to become a character you’ll either love or hate (or love to hate).
