As massive a success as Game of Thrones was, the one thing we never really got from it was a blockbuster video game. Yes, there were the TellTale adventure games, which were more of a narrative-driven experience based on player choices…but we’ve never had a game that let you explore the world of Westeros in the style of other open world games, like Elden Ring or The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.

We still don’t have that open world Game of Thrones game, alas, but TeaserPlay just released a trailer to show us all with just how cool it would be. And yeah, it’s pretty breathtaking:

We need this Game of Thrones video game. Now, please.

This trailer isn’t meant to be a true representation of what a video game based on Game of Thrones would be like, but rather to stoke the imaginations of fans. The graphics are gorgeous, especially the character models, which include insanely detailed representations of several iconic characters, like Daenerys Targaryen, Jon Snow, and Sansa Stark as well as Tyrion, Jaime and Cersei Lannister. Other bits, such as the generic dragon model, are clearly placeholders.

But still, it’s enough. This game trailer was created with Unreal Engine 5, which is the latest game development engine from Epic Games. The results speak for themselves.

Microsoft is giving away a custom House of the Dragon-themed Xbox

In other Game of Thrones gaming news, Microsoft is currently running a giveaway for a House of the Dragon-themed Xbox Series S. Per Gamespot, this marks the third time that Microsoft has made a custom console design for the Game of Thrones franchise; they first joined forces for a custom model in 2016, and then another in 2019 when the show ended.

However, this particular House of the Dragon Xbox isn’t for sale anywhere. You can only get it via the sweepstakes that Microsoft is running, which you can enter by retweeting the contest.

If only there was an amazing open world Game of Thrones game to play on it.
