Things are about to get messy in Westeros tonight when House of the Dragon Episode 9, “The Green Council,” premieres on HBO. If you caught last week’s episode, you know that King Viserys (Paddy Considine) is now dead and the next person in line will have to have their coronation to become the next king or queen. But will Viserys’ named heir Rhaenyra (Emma D’Arcy) sit the Iron Throne, or will it be Viserys and Alicent’s (Olivia Cooke) firstborn son Aegon (Tom Glynn-Carney)?

I’m certainly rooting for Rhaenyra to become the queen just as Viserys wanted, but with that misinterpreted conversation that occurred just before the king died in Episode 8, the line of succession is now not as clear. To Alicent, at least, and anyone she tells. Can Rhaenyra and her family ever have peace? Probably not with the Hightowers around.

Don’t forget to tune in to Winter is Coming‘s podcast, Take the Black, right after tonight’s episode, where we’ll be analyzing every big moment! We also go live every Wednesday afternoon to talk about all things sci-fi and fantasy.

Emma D’Arcy hadn’t seen Game of Thrones before House of the Dragon audition. dark. Next
