Outlander season 7 is rapidly approaching and there is a lot to look forward to. Within the last week, we’ve learned that fan-favorite characters are returning for the next installment. This includes Graham McTavish (Dougal MacKenzie), Nell Hudson (Laoghaire Fraser), and Steven Cree (Old Ian Fraser), amongst others. It is gearing up to be one heck of a season, and now Outlander author Diana Gabaldon is hyping it up even more.

Speaking with Scottish Daily Express, Gabaldon sounded pretty confident about the seventh season. “I can be pretty sure that fans will love 7 seven and I’ve been really enjoying what I’ve seen of it, they send me all of the dailys that they shoot every day,” the author said. She also praised Charles Vandevaart, who will be playing the older version of Jamie Fraser’s (Sam Heughan) illegitimate son, William. “[Charles] is an extremely charming young man and a fine actor, and he does actually look like he could be the son of Sam Heughan and Hannah James.”

A lot is going on in season 7. How will we see those departed cast members again? Is it possible that we will be traveling back in time? Is someone traveling through the stones? When it comes to Outlander, anything can happen.

Sam Heughan doesn’t like Jamie Fraser would like him

Speaking to fans at New York Comic Con, Sam Heughan (Jamie Fraser) praised Gabaldon for crafting this tale. “Diana’s story is fantastic, but the historical content, for me, is really interesting,” the actor said. “On the show, we were in Scotland, we went to Versailles [season 2], and now we’re in America and we’re recounting the story of the American Revolution, which I think is incredible. Not many TV shows have this scope and vast reach over such a long time period.”

And like Gabaldon, Heughan is excited by the story opportunities presented by bringing Jamie’s illegitimate son into the mix. “I think Jamie’s relationship with Willie is one of the most interesting things to play for me,” he said. “It’s unrequited love. He can’t love his son and be a father to him, but he has found ways of doing that. It’s another side to Jamie’s character that he has this unrequited love. He desperately wants to be his father and he can’t. It makes the relationship [between Jamie and Lord John] interesting as well.”

Finally, and most bizarrely, Heughan opined that “I don’t think Jamie would like me” since he’s just a “stupid actor.” I guess we can never the two of them into a room to find out.

Currently, there is no premiere date for Outlander Season 7, but if I had to guess, I’d say it will probably be on our small screens sometime in early 2023. Fingers crossed!
