Henry Cavill has been taking over our newsfeeds over the last couple of weeks. Not only is he leaving the role of Geralt of Rivia on The Witcher, he’s returning as Superman. The world imploded upon these reveal, and many of us are still reeling.

And that’s not even counting the casting rumors that swirl around Cavill. For instance, Henry Cavill’s has long been high on the list of potentials to replace Daniel Craig as James Bond. Could that happen?

The once and future Man of Steel weighed in on this during an interview with USA Today. “It is enormously flattering to read those articles that pop up about Bond all the time and who’s the favorite. I enjoy that, of course,” Cavill said. “But it’s all about how much time I have, and these roles need to be respected and a lot of work needs to be put into them. You can’t just be jumping from iconic role to iconic role with no time to prep for them.”

He’s not wrong there! While it would probably be the honor of a lifetime to play James Bond, he already has one iconic role to deal with.

Henry Cavill “very gently” held onto Superman while he was away

Cavill first played Superman in 2013’s Man of Steel and last played him in 2017’s Justice League. In the intervening years, he never stopped hoping for a comeback.

While speaking on Deadline’s The Film That Lit My Fuse video series, Cavill shared that it was “very important” to remain connected to Superman, even when he wasn’t sure that he’d ever get to don the red-and-blue suit again. “It was something which I had to very gently hold onto in my heart, because I didn’t know whether I would have the opportunity to play it again,” Cavill said. “[But] the opportunity was very important to get again, and I’m very, very lucky and feel very privileged to have that opportunity now.”

And we are very, very lucky to have him back!
