Billy Boyd (Pippin) ”loved” The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power
By Ashley Hurst
Amazon’s The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is the most expensive TV show ever made, with an overall budget exceeding one billion dollars. Did season 1 justify the lofty price tag? well, that’s up for debate. While the show is breathtakingly beautiful, many viewers thought it fell short. The latest to weigh in is Billy Boyd, who played Pippin Took in Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings movies.
All of these years later, Boyd is still passionate about the franchise; he even hosts The Friendship Onion, a Lord of the Rings-themed podcast alongside costar Dominic Monaghan (Merry Brandybuck). He, at least, loved The Rings of Power. “I, as a fan of Tolkien, I loved seeing all these places again — some of them for the first time,” he told SYFY Wire. “You know, to see Khazad-dûm and Númenor and all these places. I think that gave me the most joy. I think the way they jump from one place to another made it very watchable for me.”
"I think, ‘Oh, here we are in Númenor’ and then it would jump to the caverns of Khazad-dûm. I loved that. And, seeing things like the rings for the first time — all of that is just really joyful for me. I loved it!"
Boyd’s time in Middle-earth may be behind him, but he’s continued to act. Right now, he returns as the voice of Glen and Glenda in Chucky season 2 on SYFY, a role he began way back in Seed of Chucky in 2004!
Charlie Vicker teases Sauron in The Rings of Power season 2!
On The Rings of Power, Charlie Vickers plays Halbrand, who is later revealed to be Sauron. He expects season 2 to be even more epic than the first. “All I can say is we’re getting into the meat of it now,” Vickers told NME. “The world has been established in season 1 and now we can get into the lore.”
"I’m talking about the stuff at the heart of The Rings Of Power: the Akalabeth [the downfall of the kingdom of Numenor]. Sauron is out there now and there’s no longer any questions or theories about who he is – which is a shame for some I guess. We’re gonna be with him while he’s doing shit, while he’s out there manipulating people and taking on the elves."
Season 1 of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is now streaming on Amazon Prime Video. Season 2 is officially on the way, but we probably won’t see it until 2024 at the earliest. Amazon wants the show to run for five seasons.
