Amazon is gearing up to return to Middle-earth for another season of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. Today, it took to Twitter to reveal its directing lineup, starting with season 1 holdover Charlotte Brändström.

Brändström directed two episodes of season 1, including Episode 6, “Udûn,” which was the one with the big battle. Let’s be honest: that was probably the best episode of season 1, so it’s not surprising that Brändström will be directing four episodes this time around. Per Deadline, she’s essentially taken over the lead director role from Wayne Che Yip, who directed four episodes in season 1, including the finale.

Brändström has also worked on The OutsiderThe Man in High CastleThe Witcher and more. Meanwhile, there are two newcomers in the directing lineup this year.

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power season 2 will have eight episodes, just like season 1

First up, there’s Sanaa Hamri, who recently worked on the second season of The Wheel of Time on Amazon. She’ll be directing two episodes for The Rings of Power season 2:

Finally, Louise Hooper will direct another two episodes. She’s worked on The SandmanThe Witcher and more:

By telling us how many episodes these directors would be handling, Amazon also obliquely revealed that The Rings of Power season 2 will have eight episodes total, which is the same amount as season 1.

Expect The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power to come out sometime in 2024, although given that season 2 is already filming, it’s possible it could come out late in 2023. Then again, given how complex the production is, I wouldn’t hold your breath. That one’s a toss-up.
