The Witcher: Blood Origin, the first ever live-action spinoff of The Witcher, is now available to stream on Netflix. Set 1,200 years before the adventures of Geralt of Rivia, Blood Origin explores an elven empire at the height of its power. But since it’s so far in the distant past, don’t expect to see too many familiar faces.
One of the central characters of Blood Origin is Fjall, an elven warrior played by Irish actor Laurence O’Fuarain. While Fjall is an important new figure in The Witcher universe on Netflix, this isn’t the first time that he’s been on TV. Fjall is easily O’Fuarain’s biggest role to date, but he previously had a few minor parts in series like Vikings, Into the Badlands, and Game of Thrones.
Blood Origin lead was once slain by Stannis Baratheon on Game of Thrones
Laurence O’Fuarain’s time on Game of Thrones was brief but important. Following the defeat of Stannis Baratheon’s (Stephen Dillane) army at the hands of Ramsay Bolton, the disgraced ruler stumbled through a forest littered with the dead and dying. As Stannis fights to stay on his feet, two Bolton men-at-arms come up behind him and attack.
One of those soldiers was played by Laurence O’Fuarain. After slashing Stannis’ leg, O’Fuarain’s soldier, named “Simpson,” is quickly dispatched by a knife to the neck while the camera lingers on his shocked face. Stannis then collapses against a tree where he’s later executed by Brienne of Tarth (Gwendoline Christie).
Let’s hope that O’Fuarain’s character on The Witcher: Blood Origin has a better time of it than Simpson did on Game of Thrones.
