The Walking Dead season 1

Believe it or not, when The Walking Dead was first announced, it was met with apprehension. Another zombie project? Zombie stuff was old news, right? However, the show quickly proved that the genre was more alive than ever.

The Walking Dead hit the ground running. From the moment Rick Grimes woke up in the hospital to a deserted, zombie-infested world, everyone knew that this show was something special. And comic readers knew that it was just going to get bigger and better.

This season had a little bit of everything. It started out with one man, sheriff Rick Grimes, traveling across Atlanta in a desperate attempt to find his family. It introduced us to fan-favorite Daryl, who doesn’t exist in the source material. We met Carol, who was completely different from the comics.

The CDC storyline was unique in the overall context of the show, in that we actually learned a little about how the virus began and what it did. It was never much followed up on, though.

Season 1 was the masterful foundation upon which the rest of the show built. It set the bar extremely high, so much so that some of the later seasons failed to measure up.
