We’re a few months out now from the finale of House of the Dragon season 1, which saw fantastic performances from Emma D’Arcy and Matt Smith as Rhaenyra and Daemon Targaryen respectively. Though here at Winter is Coming we believe actor Paddy Considine was truly robbed of nominations for his portrayal of King Viserys, we’re so happy for the actors who have been honored, including Emma D’Arcy at the Golden Globes and Milly Alcock and Smith at the Critics Choice Awards. Let’s be real; all the major performances in the Game of Thrones spinoff were award-worthy.
Tonight, the 80th Golden Globes ceremony took place, which favored movies like The Banshees of Inisherin, Elvis, and Everything Everywhere All at Once. But what about the TV shows? House of the Dragon was up for Best Television Series – Drama, with actor Emma D’Arcy also nominated for Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series – Drama.
To be honest, we weren’t really expecting House of the Dragon to win either award considering there was some tough competition and the series just had its first season. I mean, Better Call Saul was also up for Best Drama Series, which concluded in 2022 after six critically acclaimed seasons. But what an upset! House of the Dragon came on top and won one of the biggest awards tonight!
House of the Dragon is the best drama show, according to the Golden Globes
We’re so thrilled to learn House of the Dragon won the award for Best Television Series – Drama at the Golden Globes tonight. What a huge feat! We know the show is fantastic, but it’s really amazing to see that the Hollywood Foreign Press Association thinks so as well. This is great news for the future of the show; hopefully see more nominations in the seasons to come.
Unfortunately, D’Arcy did not win the award they were up for; D’Arcy lost to Zendaya, who was up for her starring role in Euphoria. This marks Zendaya’s second Golden Globe win for the HBO series.
Haven’t watched House of the Dragon yet? Well, what are you waiting for? The first season is now streaming on HBO Max, and season 2 should be underway this spring.
