Vox Machina Episode 8: “Echo Tree”

Ah, family reunions.

We meet Vax and Vex’s stepmother, Devanna, and their little stepsister Velora. We also meet Syldor, their father. And he is not very pleasant. On top of that, we also see a glimpse of… love? Percy is definitely going out of his way to try and get Vex the respect she deserves, but her father is a class A asshole. He does agree to help them cross their lands safely to get the vestige, but it doesn’t seem like they will be able to count on him for anything else.

The fight with Sondor was great. Toying with a broken mind is foul play, and he does not pull punches. But Vex is smart and she breaks out of the spell and fights him. Sondor gets what he deserves in the end, while Vex gets Fenthras, the bow vestige. Oh, and we all have learned something: Vex’s heart belongs to someone! But who?! I’m excited to see how they handle this story.

I am very excited to see a certain scene animated, and I’m sure my fellow Critters are as well.

Our perverted buddy Garmelie finds himself so pleased and entertained by Keyleth, Vax, Vex and Percy that he opens a portal back to Tal’Dorei for them. And as they leave, he turns into his natural form: Archfey Artagan. I’m hoping the show provides a little bit more on him. All I’ll say is that an Archfey is a very powerful Fey creature who can bend the  feywild to his will.

This episode closes with Grog telling Scanlan and Pike about his uncle Kevdak and his possession on the Titanstone Knuckles, the gauntlet vestiges. Doesn’t seem like he’s the kind of Goliath you want to meet. Which means we will.
