Vox Machina Episode 11: Belly of the Beast

Scanlan and Vax are both moping around about their personal lives, but resolve to grow: Scanlan is intent on being there for Kaylie, who wants nothing to do with him; and Vax enters the pool of blood at the temple of the Raven Queen and realizes that death brings meaning to life, and that he is charged with helping souls transition from the world of the living to the world of the dead.

“You don’t get to choose your part in the play, but a true performer commits anyway.”

This is a turning point for both characters when it comes to accepting their purposes. We see Vax smiling as he leaves the temple covered in blood, and Scanlan may have found what was missing in his life: responsibility.

Meanwhile, Ripley is still convincing Umbrasyl to go after the vestiges, which makes it even more clear that she just wants them for herself. The dragon is either not very bright or just too drunk with power to notice.

Vox Machina, along with the Herd of Storms, have a plan to trap Umbrasyl on the ground and attack him, but it all goes sideways after the dragon spots the pressure plate that was going to spring the trap. This ends up with Scanlan and Vax being stuck inside the dragon via magical colonoscopy, as Umbrasyl gets away and flies off with Grog dangling from the axe he stuck into the dragon’s scales.
