9. Rhaenyra Targaryen and Daemon Targaryen

These two have a long story. First they were just uncle and niece; they talked together in High Valyrian and he occasionally gave her jewelry, but you couldn’t call their relationship inappopritate.

And then Daemon took his underage niece out for a night on the town and tried to have sex with her, only stopping when he realized she was into it; that turned him off. Then they danced around their attraction for each other until years later, after the co-parents of their children had both died, when they finally had sex and got married.

Later they had children of their own. Daemon isn’t only Rhaenrya’s husband, he’s also one of her chief counselors in the coming war against her half-brother Aegon for the Iron Throne. And when she suggested making peace with Aegon, he became so angry he strangled her for a bit.

Laid out like this, their relationship looks pretty twisted…and it is. I know that these two have their fans — they do seem attracted to each other and there are some ways they work well together — but there’s also a lot of ickiness there. It’s hard to believe their story will have a happy ending.

8. Daemon Targaryen and Mysaria

Here’s another of Daemon’s relationships. Earlier in his life, the Targaryen prince took up with Mysaria, a dancer and sex worker who went on to become a powerful information broker in King’s Landing. At one point, Daemon even announced his intention to marry Mysaria, although that mostly seemed like an attempt to get his older brother’s attention.

Mysaria went along with this because being with Daemon allowed her access to a level of privilege and luxury it was very hard for her to attain as a person of low birth. Neither of them seem in denial about the nature of their relationship. It isn’t love, but they both get something out of it, which is honestly less twisted then a lot of the pairings on this show.
