2. Sam and Gilly

Sam and Gilly are the most ordinary couple on Game of Thrones That’s a weird thing to say given how they met. Like Jon Snow, Sam is a man of the Night’s Watch, sworn never to take a wife. Like Ygritte, Gilly is a wildling, and the daughter of an incredibly abusive father.

But Sam and Gilly are nowhere near as intense as Jon and Ygritte. They’re motivated by fairly simple desires. Gilly just wants to protect her newborn son. Sam just wants to learn, and after he saves Gilly and the baby following a riot at her father’s keep, joins Gilly in wanting to protect the newly christened Little Sam. Those desires take them across the Seven Kingdoms, during which time they grown as close as any two characters on the show.

Gilly and Sam have each other’s back and provide an island or normalcy in the sea of romantic dysfunction that is this series. There aren’t many happy endings in Westeros, but these two earned theirs.
