16. Jaime and Cersei

Jaime and Cersei are the longest-lasting couple on the show, and one of the most twisted. First, there’s the obvious: they’re brother and sister, and that’s super weird. But beyond that, these two play all kind of mind games with each other. Cersei is deeply manipulative of Jaime, berating him for imagined slights and seducing him when she needs something. Jaime, meanwhile, can be abusive, and even forced himself on Cersei next to the the dead body of their son in season 4’s “Breaker of Chains.” Their relationship is just all sorts of sick.

And yet for a very long time, neither seemed willing to break it off. And they have supported each other, as when they worked together to bring down the High Sparrow in season 6. They’re so intwined in each other’s lives that it’s difficult for either of them to imagine navigating the world on their own.

That’s ultimately why Jaime goes back to Cersei in season 8, even though he had a chance at a new life with another partner: Brienne of Tarth. His relationship with Brienne wasn’t without problems, but it was certainly healthier than what he had with Cersei; almost anything would be.

But it was too late. These two had their hooks in one another. They deserved each other and they got each other, even onto death.
