Top 5 craziest moments from Invincible season 1
4. Omni Man destroys the Flaxan planet
The Flaxans are an advanced alien civilization that begins attacking New York City in the early episodes of Invincible. The new Guardians of the Globe are able to fend them off a couple times, as the aliens are only able to survive on Earth for a few minutes at a time. But they keep coming back, each time with more advanced weapons and tactics.
When it seems like the Guardians are overwhelmed, Omni-Man shows up to beat the Flaxans back into their portal. Instead of letting them retreat, Omni-Man flies into the portal right before it closes, much to Mark’s dismay.
On the other side of the portal, Omni-Man proceeds to destroy the entire planet, which is an advanced civilization with billions of people. He is able to fly so fast that he destroys entire Flaxan cities one after another within seconds, and the entire planet in minutes.
This scene clarifies just how powerful Omni-Man is. Before crushing the Flaxan leader’s head, he mutters “Earth is not yours to conquer.” We don’t fully know his intentions at this point, but if they’re bad, the Earth has no chance.
3. The Battle Beast fight
In Episode 5, Invincible is confronted by the criminal Titan about a situation with his boss, the crime lord Machine Head. Titan manipulates Invincible into thinking he robs banks and partakes in other illegal activities to provide for his wife and young daughter. Titan convinces Invincible to help him take down Machine Head. Invincible agrees, and the pair confront Machine Head in his penthouse suite. Unfortunately for Invincible, Machine Head paid big money to bring in some super-powered muscle.
When it looks like Invincible and Titan have Machine Head cornered, the crime boss teleports in hired muscle in the form of Furnace, Kursk, Tether Tyrant, Magmaniac and Battle Beast. The battle sees Mark get tested to the limit and brought to near defeat. He gets a second wind when Tether Tyrant has him constrained, but Battle Beast makes quick work of him and beats him into the ground.
Just when it looks like it’s going to get really bad, the New Guardians show up to help. However, they are also overwhelmed by the supervillains. I refer to this moment as the Battle Beast fight because he is truly the one who makes the difference. The gigantic lion-like creature uses his strength to wield a large mace and pummel his opponents. Even though Invincible is new to being a superhero, he is still the son Omni-Man and has incredible power, but Battle Beast defeats him fairly easily. (FYI, Battle Beast is voiced by Michael Dorn, who plays Worf in Star Trek.)
Invincible is still on the ground when Black Sampson makes one last effort to help, but his weapon malfunctions and Battle Beast proceeds to deliver a crushing blow to Mark with his mace. Battle Beast breaks Sampson’s wrist with ease and throw him into a wall. Seeing her allies nearly killed sends Monster Girl into a rage, but Battle Beast also pulverizes her in a one-on-one fight, crushing her head with two large rocks.
The remaining Guardians rally to take out Furnace, Kursk and Tether Tyrant, and luckily Battle Beast decides to leave thinking the fight is beneath him. Titan approaches Invincible, who is dying on the ground, and tells him he’s sorry things went so badly, but he has to leave to preserve his family’s safety. The Global Defense Agency then shows up to arrest Machine Head and begin medically treating the fatally wounded Invincible, Monster Girl and Black Sampson. The last thing Mark sees before passing out is his father Omni-Man, who was watching the entire battle from outside without stepping in to help his son.
The end of the episode reveals that Titan was working with Isotope the whole time in order to assume control of Machine Head’s syndicate. The Global Defense Agency also collected some of Mark’s blood hoping to find a weakness that could be used against his much more powerful father.
