If you thought you knew what The Walking Dead was all about, think again. For 11 seasons, the main show consisted of a group of survivors trekking through the forests of Georgia, very rarely entering well-populated areas. However, the upcoming spinoff Dead City shifts the setting to the bustling New York City.

The Walking Dead: Dead City is the first of two new spinoffs set to premiere this year, the other being the Daryl Dixon show. Dead City follows sworn enemies Maggie (Lauren Cohan) and Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) as they embark on a mission to the Big Apple to rescue Maggie’s son Hershel, who has been kidnapped. Her motivation for choosing Negan to accompany her is still unknown, but in the latest teaser, she tells him that he is “the key to getting him back.” Take a look:

The actor playing Hershel looks much older than the previous actor (Kien Michael Spiller). This is because the show takes place years after the series finale of The Walking Dead.

Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Lauren Cohan tease The Walking Dead: Dead City in a new featurette

Shortly after AMC dropped the latest teaser trailer for Dead City, star Jeffrey Dean Morgan dropped a featurette on his Twitter page. It features himself and co-star Lauren Cohan discussing what makes the spinoff different to any previous Walking Dead show.

When comparing New York City to other locations the franchise has explored, Cohan cited the “cold concrete elements and the ominousness of the architecture” as game-changing factors. Meanwhile, Morgan is thankful for the stark change in environment. “We’re getting out of the woods and into New York City which has been really fun,” he said.
