While the Marvel Cinematic Universe is best known for being home to the Avengers, the franchise has also introduced us to some lesser-known superhero groups. Believe it or not, when James Gunn made Guardians of the Galaxy, the group was not a household name. Fast forward to today, and we’re merely weeks away from seeing the group of cosmic misfits complete their first trilogy. Prepare for it to go out with a bang: Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is the longest movie in the series so far!
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 has a lot in store for its final outing. The movie will explore the origin story of Rocket Raccoon. It’ll also examine how Peter Quill (Chris Pratt) deals with the loss of Gamora (Zoe Saldana). Plus, Adam Warlock (Will Poulter) will step into the spotlight after being teased in the post-credits scene of GOTG Vol. 2. And Peacemaker star Chukwudi Iwuji will make his debut as villain High Evolutionary. It’s all about to go down:
The threequel will have plenty of time for laughs, cries and shocks. On Instagram, James Gunn answered fan questions regarding the upcoming movie. When asked about the runtime, he confirmed that it is longer than the previous two installments. “It’s longer than 1 & 2,” he wrote. However, he didn’t specify the exact duration. Guardians Vol. 2 is 2 hours and 17 minutes long, well ahead of Vol. 1, which was 2 hours and 2 minutes. How much bigger will Vol. 3 go?
Longer runtimes can either work out really well or backfire. Look no further than Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, which received criticism for dragging over its 2 hour and 41 minute runtime.
James Gunn gives us a new look at High Evolutionary from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3
Herbert Edgar Wyndham, aka High Evolutionary, is an iconic Marvel villain who will make his debut in the upcoming threequel. A scientist with a brain evolved to its maximum potential, he is one of the most intelligent beings in the universe. He is bent on taking other life forms and evolving them, whether they want it or not.
On his Twitter page, director James Gunn shared a new look at High Evolutionary. He looks pretty epic, right?
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 premieres on May 5, 2023. Not long now!
