Paramount+ is currently airing the third (and purportedly final) season of Star Trek: Picard. Next year, it will air the fifth and final season of Star Trek: Discovery. Is this new era of Trek winding down?

Well, no, because Paramount+ has so many Star Trek shows in production that losing two will barely make a dent. At the moment, there’s also Star Trek: Lower Decks, an animated series about the lighter side of the final frontier; and Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, a live-action show about the adventures of the crew from the unaired pilot of the original Star Trek show: Captain Pike (Anson Mount), Spock (Ethan Peck) and Number One (Rebecca Romijn).

Deadline reports that both of these shows have been renewed, Lower Decks for a fifth season and Strange New Worlds for a third. The second season of Strange New Worlds premieres on June 15, while the fourth season of Lower Decks is due out sometime in late summer.

As Star Trek: Picard and Discovery end, Strange New Worlds and Lower Decks get renewed

With these early renewals, Paramount+ signals that it has a lot of confidence in these shows, that it wants to keep Star Trek front and center in the conversation, or both. They also have Star Trek: Prodigy, an animated show aimed at younger viewers. And there are a few other shows in development, including one about intelligence agency Section 31 and another about life at Starfleet Academy.

So yeah, there’s no danger of Paramount+ running out of Trek content anytime soon. Worry not, Trekkies.
