The other day, we learned that HBO is considering making a new Game of Thrones prequel series about Aegon the Conqueror, the first-ever king of Westeros.

We heard about Aegon on both Game of Thrones and the prequel show House of the Dragon. Along with his sisters Visenya and Rhaenys, he conquered the Seven Kingdoms some 300 years before the events of Game of Thrones. On House of the Dragon, we learned he was motivated by visions of a White Walker invasion. Only by uniting the Seven Kingdoms, he reasons, could humanity stand a chance against the gathering dark.

This is a big story and it demands a commanding actor in the lead role. So who could play Aegon I Targaryen? Fans have their favorites.

Whenever there’s a new role in basically any fantasy show, some people nominate Henry Cavill to play it. And he seems particularly well-suited to play a Targaryen; after all, he already rocks a silver-white wig in The Witcher, so we know he has that part down.

Ultimately, we don’t even know if the Aegon series will happen, much less who will play Aegon if it does. For now, we watch and wait and wonder and wish.
