Amazon Prime Video’s Invincible was an instant hit when it premiered in 2021. The subversive, hyper-violent superhero series was promptly renewed for more seasons, but given that animated shows take a long time to develop, the wait for season 2 has been grueling. Thankfully, Invincible comic writer and executive producer Robert Kirkman thinks that will change.
Invincible season 2 is set to be even more chaotic than the debut outing. At this point in the story, Mark Grayson has got his powers and is starting to put them to the test. After learning that his Viltrumite father — the now disgraced Omni-Man — is not the man he thought he was, Invincible got into a brutal fight with his dad (the train scene is still etched into my minds). After beating his son near the death, a conflicted Omni-Man abandoned Earth.
Looking to the comics, we know that season 2 will feature a multiverse storyline — prepare to meet Angstrom Levy — and a lot more interplanetary adventures.
When does Invincible season 2 come out on Amazon Prime Video?
Speaking to Collider, Kirkman could not say how much progress they’ve made on the latest season, but did reveal that the production has been streamlined for efficiency, meaning a shorter wait between future seasons. “Far enough along that there won’t be a similar gap between Season 2 and Season 3,” he teased.
As for season 2, it’s all starting to come together. “It’s going great. I’m seeing full animation now, and we’re getting music and stuff put into it, and it’s coming along really great,” he said. “I can’t wait for people to finally see it so that they stop asking me about it.”
"This is the pain. This area right now is the pain for Invincible fans. So once we’re through this, once Season 2 comes out, hopefully, it should be smooth sailing from there on. There won’t be these big, large gaps, theoretically."
Thanks to a recent teaser from Prime Video, we know that Invincible season 2 will premiere sometime later this year:
