Todd Phillips’ 2019 movie Joker was made on a budget of $55 million, but ended up taking in over one billion dollars at the box office. I haven’t researched this, but that’s gotta be one of the biggest returns on investment for any movie ever. It was inevitable that we would get a sequel: Joker: Folie à Deux, a musical that will bring back Joaquin Phoenix as the Joker and bring in Lady Gaga as Harley Quinn, his equally crazy girlfriend.

The Joker has been around for over 80 years; he was introduced in Batman #1 back in 1940. Harley Quinn is a far more recent addition to the Batman universe, first appearing in Batman: The Animated Series in 1992. She quickly became a fan favorite, and has already been played on the big screen by Margot Robbie in a couple of movies. But could Margot Robbie sing?

Phillips recently wrapped on Joker 2 and shared a couple of new images in celebration, including one of Gaga as Harley Quinn. Check it out:

We’d seen images of Gaga in costume before, but this is the first one that’s been officially released. So far things are looking promising!

Joker: Folie à Deux comes out in theaters on October 4 of 2024.
