The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is digging into Galadriel’s (Morfydd Clark) backstory; the show left her in a precarious position after Halbrand (Charlie Vickers) betrayed her at the end of season 1. That’s something the series will need to explore when it returns. And the actor that plays Galadriel is feeling more confident about her character’s journey heading into The Rings of Power season 2.

Speaking to Vanity Fair, Clark admitted that the first season of The Rings of Power was daunting. After all, The Lord of the Rings has a lot of fans. Even though The Rings of Power is set thousands of years before the story most of us know, there were still high expectations. “Because I’m a fan of this type of genre, I’ve read books that have then been turned into things, and I’ve been like, I don’t think the house would’ve looked like that,” Clark said. “So, I really get it.”

"So I think there’s an idea that you can’t please everyone. But also, I do respect the ownership of her because I know if I was on the other side, I’d also be feeling like that. I feel very protective about that. I feel quite protective of making sure she’s safe from harm."

And it sounds like Galadriel might have an easier time in The Rings of Power season 2, even as she deals with the return of Sauron. When asked about where the Elven warrior is headed, Clark suggested she’s working through the difficult feelings that drove her throughout season 1.

Galadriel may have a more uplifting storyline in The Rings of Power season 2

Galadriel spent The Rings of Power season 1 dealing with the loss of her brother and searching for the villain responsible. Anger and sadness were at the forefront of her journey, but according to Clark, those emotions are beginning to dissipate.

“So last season I think that her grief was so intense, her sadness was so huge,” Clark said. “I think when you are in those points of ultimate lows, you do end up becoming self-obsessed. You can’t see anything beyond this haze of misery. And now that has started to clear.”

And while Clark couldn’t offer major details about The Rings of Power season 2, she’s hoping Galadriel will adopt a more positive outlook going forward. “Hopefully, with that she’s rediscovering the beauty of life and what she was really trying to protect the whole time beyond herself.”

Fans will have to wait to see whether Galadriel can hang onto hope as darkness spreads across Middle-earth. There’s plenty to look forward to when The Rings of Power returns. As for now, season 1 is currently streaming on Prime Video.
