HBO is currently filming the second season of its Game of Thrones prequel series House of the Dragon. This is despite the ongoing writers strike in Hollywood, which we’re crossing our fingers has no adverse effects on the new episodes; the scripts for season 2 are all written, but without writers on set to give notes or rewrite things as needed, there’s still some danger.

But we’ll cross that bridge when we come to it. At the moment, we’re getting images of the crew dressing the streets of Cáceres, Spain for new scenes. Take a look at some images below:

Nothing says “medieval city” like wooden rickshaws.

House of the Dragon prepares to film season 2 in the Spanish city of Cáceres

Local outlet El Periódico mentions that House of the Dragon stars Emma D’Arcy (Rhaenyra Targaryen) and Olivia Cooke (Alicent Hightower) are arriving in Cáceres. Although I wouldn’t expect Rhaenyra and Alicent to share any scenes in the new future. If the show follows the template set up by George R.R. Martin’s Fire & Blood, they’ll be on opposite sides of a war for a while, with Alicent plotting in King’s Landing while Rhaenyra schemes on Dragonstone.

So what scenes are going to be filmed in Cáceres? It’s hard to say. In the past, the city has stood in for King’s Landing, and it will probably do so again. But there’s no rule that says it can’t pull double duty as some other place.

One interesting image shows what seems to be ash spread on the streets of Cáceres. Check it out:

When we see ash on the streets of a Game of Thrones, we usually think of dragons immolating cities from the air. And there are indeed a couple of dragon battles coming up on House of the Dragon. We should also remember that Mysaria’s manse was burned towards the end of House of the Dragon season 1, so this could be the remains of that.

It’ll be a while before we find out; we shouldn’t expect new episodes of House of the Dragon to air until 2024, but we’ll keep an eye on the set in the meantime.

All the Song of Ice and Fire manuscripts George R.R. Martin keeps at Texas A&M. dark. Next
