8. Down comes the Wall

The Wall, built by the Brandon Stark of ancient times, protected Westeros for ages from what lay in the icy north beyond. All of that fell apart after Daenerys Targaryen’s dragon Viserion lost his life to a well-aimed spear thrown by the Night King.

Maybe he shouldn’t have been up there in the first place, but let’s move past that. An episode later, Dany’s once-obedient child brought down the Wall with burning blue flames. Winter had arrived.

7. The Mountain and the Viper

With his style and charisma, Oberyn Martell became a fan-favorite overnight when he was introduced in season 4. Pedro Pascal has since become a huge star, and this was his big break. He has a face made for the screen, and it was very hard to watch it get smashed into a pulp.

Oberyn lost his life fighting the Gregor “the Mountain” Clegane, who looked unbeatable. But with his speed and agility, it seemed for a moment that Oberyn would manage it. But he got cocky, and we got one of the most gruesome and unpredictable deaths in the show.

6. The Battle of the Bastards

Longclaw unsheathed, Jon Snow prepares to take on the charging Bolton cavalry; the image of him facing down a wall of heavy horse remains iconic to this day. Jon had just lost his brother Rickon, forever known as the Stark who could not zigzag) right after learning what Ramsay Bolton had put Sansa through in their… marriage. He got himself into the situation, but we understood why, and we were with him.

This scene encompasses everything that Jon Snow is made of: he has the loyalty of a Stark and the impetuousness of a Targaryen. The entire battle is a cinematic masterpiece, including the timely arrival of the Knights of the Vale to trample the Bolton forces.
