Ever since dragons clashed amid the storm-wracked skies over Storm’s End, we’ve been eagerly awaiting season 2 of House of the Dragon. HBO’s first Game of Thrones spinoff has firmly established itself as a new hit show to watch, and now that the Dance of the Dragons civil war has been set up, things are going to get bloody.
Obviously, the biggest question is when we’ll actually get to watch the show’s sophomore season. And while we don’t quite know the answer to that yet, some recent updates have us more than a little excited. Let’s go over the latest news the ravens have brought in from the Seven Kingdoms.

When is the House of the Dragon season 2 release date?
While no official announcement has been made yet, Deadline recently reported that House of the Dragon season 2 is eyeing a Summer 2024 release date.
While the WGA writers’ strike is currently ongoing and affecting lots of different productions, House of the Dragon has continued filming thanks to the fact that its scripts were already finished months ahead of the strike being called. That said, if there are any revisions that have to be made, they won’t be filmed until after the strike is over, according to HBO exec Francesca Orsi. While the strike hasn’t yet derailed House of the Dragon, the longer it goes on without a resolution, the higher the chance it could affect the show’s season 2 premiere date. We’ll have to hope a fair agreement is reached before House of the Dragon wraps primary filming later this year.
Beyond date news, we also heard reports this past month that Sam C. Wilson has been cast as Blood in season 2. Readers of Fire & Blood will know the character as one half of the infamous duo of assassins known as Blood and Cheese. We won’t discuss the details here, but suffice it to say that it’s exciting to know that the show is in the process of filming that pivotal sequence.
We’ll see it when House of the Dragon season 2 premieres, hopefully in the summer of 2024.
