Black Mirror season 6: June 15 (Netflix)

The genre TV series don’t start coming out until the middle of the month, when Netflix releases the sixth season of Black Mirror, its sci-fi anthology series exploring the perils of advanced technology. This time around, a woman finds that a streaming service has somehow made a prestige drama series about her life. In 1969, a pair of men on a high-tech mission wrestle with the consequences of “unimaginable tragedy.” A sales assistant is told she must commit terrible acts to avoid disaster. And so on.

Black Mirror is a little like a modern-day Twilight Zone; each episode stands on its own, with a new cast and a new weird story. Sometimes they’re cautionary tales, sometimes they just exist to screw with your brain. The show has been making people go “hmm” and “gah!” for years now and season 6 looks to be every bit as thoughtful and unsettling as usual.

The Flash (June 16)

This one has been a long time coming. The Flash was already undergoing delays and rewrites before star Ezra Miller started making headlines for assault and child endangerment, so the fact that this movie is finally coming out at all is a small miracle.

If the movie is a hit, all the scandals that led up to release will be forgotten. The Flash stars Miller as Barry Allen, a superhero who can move so fast he can travel to different dimensions. We’re getting another multiverse story, this one full of cameos from other iconic superheroes past, present and never were.

Unless the studio decides to pivot, The Flash will be the final entry in the DC Cinematic Universe as established by Zack Snyder in 2013 with Man of Steel. Will it be a worthy exit or a reminder of why Warner Bros. Discovery is moving away from all this?
