The Walking Dead: Dead City: June 18 (AMC)

The main Walking Dead series ended in 2022, but if you think AMC has any intention of letting this franchise remain dead, you are extremely mistaken. They’re working on a number of spinoffs, including Dead City, which picks up a few years after the end of the series finale and finds the unlikely duo of Maggie (Lauren Cohen) and Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) heading to New York City to rescue Maggie’s kidnapped son.

They’re an unlikely duo because Negan famously smashed Maggie’s husband Glenn to death with a baseball bat. The pair made peace during the final stretch of the original show, but apparently Negan knows the people who kidnapped Maggie’s son, so she seeks out his help. The tension!

Later in 2023, AMC will air another Walking Dead spinoff about Daryl Dixon, but that’ll be then. For June, it’s all about zombies taking Manhattan!

Secret Invasion: June 21 (Disney+)

Ever since WandaVision, we have been deluged with a fire hose of TV shows set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The Falcon and the Winter SoldierLokiHawkeyeMs. MarvelMoon KnightShe-Hulk…it’s been almost non-stop, and the train is nowhere close to running out of speed.

The latest MCU show is Secret Invasion, which catches up with Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) as he grapples with a rogue contingent of shape-shifting Skrull aliens who are trying to infiltrate the highest circuits of power on Earth. It’s a spy drama packed with old faces (Don Cheadle will return as James Rhodes, for instance) and heavy-hitting newcomers, including Oscar-winner Olivia Colman and Game of Thrones veteran Emilia Clarke.

Some Marvel shows have had trouble standing out from the pack, but there’s a layer of prestige to Secret Invasion that has me intrigued.
