House of the Dragon looking for amputees to play extras in season 2
By Dan Selcke
HBO is currently filming the second season of House of the Dragon, its Game of Thrones prequel show about a brutal Targaryen civil war. HBO recently completed filming some scenes in Spain, but there’s a lot more to do.
Much of the filming will take place at Leavesden Film Studios in southeast England, but there are other on-location shoots to happen as well. For instance, we’ve known for a while now that the House of the Dragon team will film some scenes in Wales. Now, we have some more details.
On Twitter, @westerosies noticed an ad for extras going up; the ad doesn’t mention House of the Dragon by name, but that’s pretty obviously what’s going on. Read the ad below:
"HBO are looking for amputees for an exciting new project codenamed Red Gun 2 filming in North Wales this summer. All filming days will be paid and previous experience on a film set is not necessary. We are looking for men aged 18-55 – all looks welcome.Filming will take place in North Wales during Summer 2023 – If selected by the Director, it is likely that you will only be needed for a few days within this period (making working as an ‘extras’ easy to fit in alongside other commitments).Whilst we can’t reveal much at this stage, we can say this is an amazing opportunity to work on set and to be part of a very special production. To be considered for a role you must first make a profile on Two 10 Casting’s website – www.two10casting.com. The process is free and only takes a couple of minutes. Once you have created your profile we will be in touch with further information and will be able to check your availability for specific roles/dates. When applying please flag on your profile as many skills as applicable. We are in search of a large number of people, the more the merrier, so if you know people who are amputees (for a specific scene) and also those who are not amputees but they are still itnerested, please also send them to our website. All applicants must have the right to work in the UK and be aged 18+.Jason"
“Red Gun” was the code name for the first season of House of the Dragon. So “Red Gun 2″…well, it’s not hard to figure out. This news was later picked up by local outlet Barry & District News.
What scenes will House of the Dragon shoot in Wales?
So House of the Dragon is looking for amputees to serve as extras. What scene might they be shooting?
A couple come to mind. First, there are a couple battles coming up in the second season of House of the Dragon, at least if George R.R. Martin’s book Fire & Blood is any guide. And the ad does ask for male amputees, which could mean male soldiers. Perhaps they’re filming the aftermath of a battle or something.
There’s also a part in Fire & Blood where Rhaenyra and her team put out a call for random people to come to Dragonstone and try to tame some of the wild dragons living there. The idea is that she’s trying to add more dragonriders to her army air force. If someone can successful ride a dragon, they get a knighthood and land in return.
In the book, many people answer the call. A few do become dragonriders, but many fail, and some of those people are maimed by ornery dragons. Perhaps the amputees will play would-be dragonriders who didn’t quite have what it takes.
House of the Dragon is due out on HBO and Max sometime next summer.
