Every year, we get a new calendar full of gorgeous images inspired by George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire books. The 2024 calendar will have art by Justin Sweet. Martin himself debuted the cover image a while back: a picture of Lyanna Stark and Rhaegar Targaryen at a weirwood in the forest. Is Rhaegar seeing Lyanna for the first time, possibly falling in love with her and unknowingly dooming the Targaryen dynasty?
Perhaps we’ll get to read a version of this scene in The Winds of Winter. At this point, these yearly calendars are the closest things to new Song of Ice and Fire books we’re getting with any kind of reliability.
Daenerys, White Walkers, and pale spiders big as hounds in the 2024 Song of Ice and Fire calendar
Anyway, Westeros.org has directed our attention to a pair of new images from within the pages of the calendar. The month of August includes a gorgeous illustration of Daenerys Targaryen and her dragon Drogon, probably from when she’s stuck with him in the Dothraki and trying to make her way back to Meereen at the end of A Dance With Dragons:
After that, we have an image from the Age of Heroes, long before the events of our story; in this image, a long-dead hero fights pale spiders as big as hounds, which were famously ridden by the Others, aka the White Walkers:
The art looks tremendous! I’m looking forward to seeing the rest. The 2024 Song of Ice and Fire calendar goes on sale on July 25.
