Game of Thrones is known for many things, including its dragons, epic battle scenes, and of course, its many, many deaths. Author George R.R. Martin, who wrote the book series the HBO show is based on, has discussed why it’s so important to kill off beloved characters and I agree with his take. But it still stings to see our favorites go.

Some of the best moments on the show revolve around major deaths, and we wouldn’t change them for the world, despite how brutal they may be. But if we had the opportunity to bring back characters from the dead, well… I’d be tempted. There are certainly a handful who don’t deserve the fates they met.

We’re breaking down the Game of Thrones characters we’d resurrect given the chance, and the ones we’d keep buried deep down in the grave.

Ygritte

What Game of Thrones fan could ever dislike Ygritte? It’s easy for Jon Snow – and audiences – to fall in love with the quick-witted free folk woman. Starting off as his prisoner north of the Wall, Ygritte takes a liking to Jon and proves her fearless nature throughout their time together. She’s the first girl Jon’s really ever gotten close to, and he learns a lot during their short-lived courtship.

Ygritte tragically dies in Jon’s arms in season 4 after being shot with an arrow by Olly, which is one of the most heartbreaking scenes in the show. (Damn, Olly! I still hold a grudge against that kid.)

Ygritte living longer in the show would change Jon Snow’s trajectory. Although we’re sure he’d still battle against the White Walkers and become King in the North, his relationship with Daenerys Targaryen would be very different. And that would probably be a good thing.

VERDICT: Bring back
