Abubakar Salim “having a lot of fun” playing Alyn of Hull in House of the Dragon season 2

HBO is currently filming the second season of House of the Dragon, its Game of Thrones prequel series. Like the second season of Game of Thrones, House of the Dragon will bring in several new characters. Freddie Fox will play Alicent’s older brother Ser Gwayne Hightower, Gayle Rankin will play the mysterious Alys Rivers, and Abubakar Salim will play Alyn of Hull.

Alyn and his brother Addam are crucial characters from George R.R. Martin’s book Fire & Blood. Without giving too much away, both of them are part of an event called the Sowing of the Seeds, which involves Rhaenyra Targaryen and her advisors putting out a call for people willing to try their luck at taming riderless dragons. If they succeed and fight for Rhaenyra, they will be given titles and lands.

Peasants living on the island of Driftmark, Alyn and Addam both make attempts, and while I won’t spoil the outcome, both of them become important characters. Also, while Fire & Blood doesn’t confirm this, it’s heavily implied that both Addam and Alyn are the bastard children of Corlys Velaryon (Steve Toussaint). I’m betting the show will settle that ambiguity.

From what we can tell, Abubakar Salim is on the House of the Dragon set in Wales right now. Taking to Twitter, the actor himself said that he’s “having a lot of fun” playing the character:

"I’m having a lot of fun playing Alyn.Like a lot of fun."

It’s a little unusual for an actor to talk this openly about what’s happening on the set of a show like House of the Dragon, considering that HBO was so strict about secrets leaking from the set of Game of Thrones. May it continue.

Is Addam of Hull in House of the Dragon season 2 or what?

And yet, there are still questions left unanswered. While HBO announced that Salim will play Alyn a while back, they have yet to say who, if anyone, is playing Addam. That’s odd, since Addam has the bigger role in the story that House of the Dragon is telling.

Some fans have speculated that Corlys Velaryon’s trueborn son Laenor Velaryon (John Macmillan), whom we last saw rowing away from Driftmark after faking his own death, might take over Addam’s role from the book. And indeed, Macmillan has been spotted on set…but so has actor Clinton Liberty, who we’ve heard may play Addam.

So I don’t know what’s going on there. If Salim wants to clear that up and put my mind at ease, it would be much appreciated.
