The Lord of the Rings movies are full of iconic moments that fans cherish years later. We all remember the epic action sequences and rousing speeches from Aragorn and Theoden, but there are so many more moments of heart, wisdom, and philosophy sprinkled in.

Let’s run through a list of 13 moments from The Lord of the Rings movies that fans still cherish. While most of the moments happened in The Lord of Rings books, we focused on the movies from Peter Jackson for the purposes of this ranking. You also won’t find any moments from The Hobbit or Rings of Power on this list.

Let’s get the list started with Frodo and the Hobbits joining the Fellowship.

13. Frodo and the Hobbits join the Fellowship of the Ring

"Frodo: “I will take the Ring to Mordor, though I do not know the way.”"

One of the best moments from The Lord of The Rings movies is when Frodo volunteers to take the One Ring to Mordor, but he adds that he doesn’t know the way. There’s so much going on in this scene. We’re witnessing centuries-old biases and disagreements on display as the Council of Elrond decides the fate of the Ring. Frodo can’t bear it any longer and volunteers for this journey. Part of it is Frodo’s courage, and part of it is his fondness for the Ring, I think. He doesn’t really have a choice.

It’s also incredibly funny that he volunteers for the job to save Middle-earth in the face of near-certain death, but he also reminds those on the council that he can’t just walk into Mordor. Then we get the volunteers: Gandalf, Aragorn, Legolas, Gimli, Boromir, and the Hobbits. Sam jumps out of the bushes and says Frodo isn’t going anywhere without him, followed by Merry and Pippin, who also volunteer for the journey.

Elrond announces the nine companions for the quest. Then, Pippin asks, “Where are we going?” It’s the perfect scene.
