11. Boromir’s sacrifice in The Fellowship of the Ring

"Boromir: “Our people, our people. I would have followed you, my brother, my captain, my king.”"

Boromir’s journey in The Fellowship of the Ring is interesting. It’s easy to see why he has such a chip on his shoulder and doesn’t recognize Aragorn as Gondor’s King. He wants to use the Ring for his own purposes and to defend his people. He’s attracted to the power of the Ring, and eventually, it’s what dooms him.

After trying to take the Ring from Frodo, the Fellowship is attacked on the banks of the Anduin and Boromir sacrifices himself to save Merry and Pippin. Well, technically, he doesn’t save them, but he delays the orcs just long enough for Frodo and Sam to escape.

In Boromir’s last moments, he apologizes to Aragorn for trying to take the Ring, and for the disdain he showed him during their quest. By the end, he recognized the true leader Aragorn was.

This is one of the most heartbreaking deaths in the movie trilogy. In terms of courage and bravery, there are few moments from the movies that top Boromir taking on a legion of orcs, ending up with three arrows deep in his chest, and living long enough to share a moment with Aragorn at the end.
