10. Arwen saves Frodo in The Fellowship of the Ring

"Arwen: “What Grace has given me, let it pass to him. Let him be spared. Save him.”"

We love an epic horse chase through the forest! And, that’s what we get after Frodo, Sam, Aragorn, Merry, and Pippin attract the Ringwraiths to Weathertop. In the fight, Frodo dons the Ring and one of the Ringwraiths stabs him with a Morgul blade. It nearly dooms him to a fate worse than death. Sam, Aragorn, Merry and Pippin try to save his life, but it’s beyond Aragorn’s expertise.

Thankfully, Arwen shows up, calls upon the Valar to save Frodo, and wins the race to the Ford of Brunen, which Arwen uses to drown the Ringwraiths, with a little magical assistance from Gandalf. It’s an incredible show of force, and one of the first moments where we see magic used to alter the course of the plot.

Arwen plays such a critical role in this story. If Arwen doesn’t rise to the occasion and use her power to save Frodo’s life, the story ends right here.
