6. Sam’s speech at Osgoliath in The Two Towers

"Frodo: “What are we holding on to, Sam?” Sam: “That there’s some good in this world, Mr. Frodo. And it’s worth fighting for.”"

At the end of The Two Towers, Frodo, Sam, and Gollum have been delayed by Faromir and the Men of Gondor. They’re taken to Osgoliath and witness an assault on the city by Mordor’s forces. Frodo nearly gives the Ring to the enemy during the battle, and Sam saves him. Instead of keeping Frodo against his will, Faromir lets him go, and that’s when we get an epic speech from Samwise.

He tells Frodo of the stories he remembered hearing growing up, and how the best ones are always the ones where the hero persevered in the face of incredible odds.

Over this journey, Frodo has changed so much. The depression from carrying the Ring for so long is taking its toll on him, and he can’t see the point of continuing with so much evil in the world. Frodo asks Sam what they are even holding on to right now. Sam literally picks Frodo up and reminds him that the good in the world is worth fighting for. That’s what this is all about, and it’s one of the best moments in the whole series.
