Trailer: What Game of Thrones would look like as an open world RPG

There have been Game of Thrones video games in the past, most notably a series of narrative-based games from Telltale. The gameplay in those games mostly involved players making choices and seeing how they played that, which was a good fit, considering that much of Game of Thrones was concerned with scheming and strategizing.

There’s also a browser game called Winter Is Coming, which has players making command decisions at the head of an army:

This is all well and good, but there’s never been a huge, sprawling video game that allowed players to wander around a fully rendered version of Westeros, in the way they wander Skyrim or Hyrule or the Lands Between. I think a lot of people would be interested in something like that, and I’m not the only one.

Trailer for hypothetical Game of Thrones open world RPG made in Unreal Engine 5

Working with Unreal Engine 5 and lifting some cinematic elements from that Winter Is Coming browser game we just mentioned, TeaserPlay has put together a concept trailer for a Game of Thrones open world video game that may one day exist. Check it out:

They have the nerve to paraphrase Tyrion’s line from the series finale: “There’s nothing in the world more powerful than a good story.” Well, is he wrong?

Again, just for safety, this is a test trailer — nothing in here is real — but you know that a game like this would fly off the shelves if it ever got produced. Maybe when the second season of House of the Dragon comes along and people are talking about the Game of Thrones universe again, someone will take the idea seriously.
