The first season of Good Omens adapted the book of the same name by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett, about an angel (Aziraphale, played by Michael Sheen) and a demon (Crowley, played by David Tennant) who team up to prevent the scheduled Biblical apocalypse, the both of them having grown rather fond of Earth over the past few thousand millennia.

The show was a hit, both with those who enjoy light fantasy comedy and those who want Aziraphale and Crowley to be together as husband and husband forever and ever and ever. But would have things have been different had the actors switched roles?

It might have happened, as Sheen recently revealed that he was originally set to play Crowley before deciding the role wasn’t right for him.

David Tennant’s “slinky hips” helped him secure his role in Good Omens

“I’d been friends with Neil for years,” Sheen said on the British talk show The One Show, per Digital Spy. “So when we first started talking about the project, we sort of both kind of for some reason assumed I would play this one character.

"And then as he started writing the scripts I was like, “That’s not the character. I’m not going to play that.” So I kind of felt bad about saying that to Neil, and Neil was feeling… because he was thinking the same thing, feeling bad about saying it to me – so it all came out."

Everything worked out for the best in the end, obviously, with the role of Crowley going to David Tennant. Sheen credits Tennant’s “slinky hips” with helping him nail down the part.
