What is the Superman: Legacy cast?
By WiC Staff
James Gunn, best known for directing the Guardians of the Galaxy movies, has a new gig: he’s in charge of the new DC Cinematic Universe. He’ll kick that off by directing Superman: Legacy, a new film that will once again reboot the story of the Man of Steel.
By this point, we know a lot about who will appear in this film. Let’s run through them.
James Gunn Superman: Legacy cast
First up, who’s in the running to play the big man himself?
Who’s playing Superman in Superman: Legacy?
After auditioning several actors, Gunn decided to cast American actor David Corenswet in the role of Clark Kent. He’s appeared in Ryan Murphy dramas like The Politician and Hollywood as well as movies like Pearl.
Corenswet isn’t a huge name, which could be a good thing, since audiences won’t go into Superman: Legacy with preconceived notions about the kind of role he’s supposed to play. Last we saw, it looked like he was bulking up to play the Man of Steel.
Who’s playing Lois Land in Superman: Legacy?
The role of fast-talking Daily Planet reporter Lois Lane will go to Rachel Brosnahan, the star of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. Anyone who’s seen that show can easily picture her in the role of a spunky reporter.
Who’s playing Lex Luthor in Superman: Legacy?
We have learned that Nicholas Hoult, the English actor who recently appeared alongside Nicolas Cage in Renfield, will be playing Superman’s arch-nemesis Lex Luthor. Hoult is also notable for his roles in movies like Mad Max: Fury Road and X-Men: First Class.
Who’s playing Jimmy Olsen in Superman: Legacy?
According to ABC News, Skyler Gisondo will play young reporter Jimmy Olsen, Superman’s pal. Gisondo has been acting for a while, but is probably best known for playing Gideon Gemstone on the HBO comedy The Righteous Gemstones.
Who else is in Superman: Legacy?
There are lots of other characters who will appear in Superman: Legacy, including:
- Firefly and The Rookie star Nathan Fillion is Guy Gardner, a member of the Green Lantern corps
- Isabela Merced is Hawkgirl
- Edi Gathegi is Mister Terrific
- Barry veteran Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho
- Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific
- María Gabriela de Faría as a villain named the Engineer
- Sara Sampaio as a villain named Eve Teschmacher, Lex Luthor’s assistant
The inclusion of these other super-powered characters indicates that Superman: Legacy won’t just be about Superman. Gunn and his producing partner Peter Safran have a cinematic universe to launch, so there may be a lot of world-building going on.
Superman: Legacy is due out on July 11, 2025.
