Joseph Quinn improvises Eddie Munson moment in behind-the-scenes Stranger Things video
By Dan Selcke
In the season 4 finale of Stranger Things, high school slacker Eddie Munson (Joseph Quinn) and boy genius Dustin Henderson (Gaten Matarazzo) are fighting for their lives in the Upside Down dimension. The pair find the alternate universe version of Eddie’s prized electric guitar, which he plans to use to distract a host of nightmare creatures so their friends can land a killing blow on the maniacal Vecna. “Are you ready for the most metal concert in the history of the world?” Eddie asks Dustin, before slinging the guitar over his back and running out of the room.
As it ends up, Eddie slinging was improvised in the moment by Quinn. We know that because of a behind-the-scenes video recorded by Stranger Things creator Matt Duffer, which was posted to the @strangerwriters Twitter account:
Movie magic, everyone!
Watch Joseph Quinn (Eddie Munson) improvise on the set of Stranger Things
It’s fun hearing Joseph Quinn switch from Eddie’s American accent to Quinn’s British one. “Is that too camp?” he asks of his idea. But Matt Duffer (or at least I assume it’s Matt Duffer talking) is all in on the idea. “That’s kinda sick,” he says. “That’s sick.”
“Sick” in this context means “awesome” and “camp” means “goofy.” In addition to being a cool peek behind the scenes of a major show, this video is also an informative lesson in American and British vernacular.
You can stream all four seasons of Stranger Things right now on Netflix. A fifth and final season is on the way, but with both Hollywood writers and actors on strike, don’t expect it anytime soon.
