All the secrets from The Wheel of Time season 2 trailer
By Daniel Roman
In the shadow of the Dragonmount
Our next leg of the trailer starts with a stunning shot of Tar Valon. But even more exciting than the city itself is the mountain looming out of the shadows on the left. That’s the Dragonmount, which is a hugely important location in The Wheel of Time lore. Love to see it!
Moiraine rides hard at night, glancing over her shoulder:
And when she’s not riding, she’s telling Lan that “protecting Rand, guiding him, that is the only thing that matters.”
Lots of people want to have influence over Rand in the books, and will in the show as well. Just in this trailer, we see quite a few people with designs on Rand al’Thor, including Moiraine and Lanfear. Siuan Sanche, the leader of the Aes Sedai, tells someone they “can’t control him” in this shot:
Speaking of control, Rand looks like he might be having some problems with that as well:
Weaves of the One Power twist off his hands while he anxiously watches. It’s hard to tell if those are fire weaves or if this is the way the show is portraying the male half of the source, Saidin. There appear to be some dark streaks running through the weaves as well, which is a cool way to visualize the taint which has corrupted the male half of the One Power.
Perrin spends quality time with a wolf
Rand isn’t the only person who’ll have some issues with magic and how to control it in this season. In the books, Perrin Aybara is a Wolfbrother, someone who can communicate with wolves. So far the show hasn’t explored that part of his life very much.
A wolf! Could this be Hopper, Perrin’s wolf bestie from the books?
In The Wheel of Time books, Perrin’s eyes turn permanently golden once he begins going down the path of the Wolfbrother. We only saw brief flashes of gold in season 1. Here’s hoping we’ll be seeing more of Perrin Goldeneyes and his wolf powers in season 2, especially since it’s been confirmed that his mentor Elyas Machera will appear this season.
Rand lashes out at Moiraine while weaves of the One Power encircle him. Not very nice, Rand.
During The Great Hunt, Egwene eventually crosses paths with the Seanchan. It doesn’t go well for her, and she ends up captured and forced to wear one of the a’dam collars the Seanchan use to control channelers, which she’s wearing in this shot. It’s a hugely formative experience for Egwene; I can’t wait to see what Madeleine Madden does with the material!
Nynaeve, looking at her bloodsoaked hands in horror. She’s wearing Novice white here. Considering there’s another shot later on where she stumbles out of one of the arches for her Accepted trials with blood on her white shift, we’d guess this is part of the same sequence.
The camera pans up from the corrupted dagger Mat Cauthon stole from Shadar Logoth to give us our first look at Dónal Finn as Mat! Resist its influence, Mat!
Back to Rand, here he is again with Lanfear. If a Forsaken is hanging out with Rand they must have an agenda.
And here we have Rand with Logain Ablar (Álvaro Morte), the False Dragon who had his magic taken away by the Aes Sedai during season 1. “I want to know how to control it,” Rand says. Logain has a dazed look here, and gives a slight twitch when Rand asks his question. Don’t forget: using the One Power drives men mad in this world.
