All the secrets from The Wheel of Time season 2 trailer
By Daniel Roman
The Seanchan cometh
A wide shot shows the assembled Seanchan army with a towering palanquin throne in their midst. Nearby townsfolk lie on the ground. This looks a little like the village where we saw the Damane blast Perrin and the Shienarans earlier; note the style of the thatched roofing on the houses.
There are likely even more secrets to be found in this image. Some eagle-eyed fans even think they’ve identified the corpse in the bottom middle of the picture as Uno. It would be a bit of a departure if Uno were to die this season since he lives on for quite a while in the books, but we’re not ruling anything out.
The Xerxes-from-300 vibes are strong with the Seanchan. Thanks to a now-deleted cosplay guide that was tweeted out by the official Wheel of Time Twitter account, we know that the person on the throne is Lady Suroth, an important Seanchan figure. Not sure who’s playing her or who the person on the left is, but that guy on the right is Ishamael, who’s apparently thrown in with the Seanchan, probably to manipulate them for his own ends. This is bad news.
This is High Lord Turak of the Seanchan, played by Daniel Francis. We know it’s Turak because later on we see him draw a Heron-mark sword, which is part of an iconic scene from The Great Hunt.
We get a good look at his Seanchan regalia and fun finger hardware. That box in front of Turak looks like the one holding the Horn of Valere that we saw Padan Fain steal in season 1. You can just catch a glimpse of the Horn as the box opens:
Next we get a few quick shots showing off another important moment, as Egwene goes head-to-head with a Seanchan damane/sul’dam pair:
It looks to me like Egwene is standing her ground here, maybe to give Elayne, an important character from the series who will be introduced this season, time to run away? Egwene throws up a shield to hold back the Seanchan channeler’s power:
We then cut to Nynaeve blasting a bunch of Trollocs into oblivion. Always fun.
It’s hard to tell exactly where Nynaeve is here, but she’s not wearing Aes Sedai clothing. That almost looks like an Emmonds Field-style house behind her.
Horses ride through a sandstorm. We know we’ll spend time with the desert-dwelling Aiel people this season, but in the books the Aiel don’t typically ride horses. It almost looks like the riders are wearing white cloaks, so maybe these are Children of the Light?
Our next shot is of Liandrin in the White Tower. It looks like she’s standing in front of the forge where the rings of fallen Aes Sedai are melted down, which we saw in season 1.
From Liandrin, we cut to Perrin chasing a little girl:
Who’s child is that?! Perrin obviously has no kids; remember him murdering his wife at the beginning of the series? My guess is that this is a dream or vision of some kind. Maybe Perrin’s dreaming of better days? Or maybe that’s not Perrin’s kid at all; in The Great Hunt, Nynaeve sees a vision of Lan during her Accepted trial where he tells her they married and had a child. Could this be Nynaeve and Lan’s dream-baby?
