All 9 Lannisters in Game of Thrones, ranked from worst to best
1. Tyrion Lannister
There’s no way Tyrion can’t be number one on this list. As one of the most beloved and complex characters in Game of Thrones, Tyrion is an absolute joy to watch season after season. Although he makes some missteps in the later seasons, his overall storyline is still one of the most compelling. And he’s just an awesome person!
Born into tragedy, Tyrion is a dwarf whose mother died during childbirth. As a result, his family, especially his father Tywin, resent him. He’s never good enough in their eyes, and although he’s a member of the wealthiest and most powerful family in Westeros, he’s a complete outcast. It’s not easy for him to gain respect from his peers and he’s frequently considered a joke. Tyrion is very aware of all of this and learns how to use it to his advantage.
Tyrion’s difficult upbringing causes him to be empathetic toward others. This quality, along with his wit, intelligence, and strategic thinking, makes him a force of nature, even if others don’t realize it. His self-deprecating and sometimes pessimistic outlook on life combined with his resilience and continued determination to do the right thing is really interesting to watch.
Tyrion also has some of the best one-liners of the whole show, and he brings humor to each season without it feeling forced or cheesy. Even when he’s making mistakes, it’s a good scene whenever he’s onscreen.
It goes without saying that Peter Dinklage’s performance as Tyrion is outstanding, completely deserving of the four Emmy Awards he won during Game of Thrones’ run. If I could only keep one character in the series, Tyrion would be a big contender.
